Investment Process
The process of building your personalized portfolio begins with you…
- To design a unique separately managed account strategy consistent with your goals and objectives, Fourth Quadrant Asset Management must understand your complete financial picture
- When choosing the optimal long-term investment strategy and engineering the near-term tactics, some of the factors considered are below. Once we have evaluated your goals and objectives, an appropriate benchmark and asset allocation will be assigned
Portfolio Considerations
- Your time horizon – how long you expect to need your money working towards your objectives
- Objectives – the terminal value you wish to target over your time horizon
- Employment (Occupation Correlation, Industry, Position)
- Family health history
- Cash flow requirements
- Other Assets, not managed by Fourth Quadrant Asset Management
- Investment experience and constitution
- Tax Status and unrealized tax assets and liabilities
- Pension plans
- Assign appropriate benchmark to maximize probability of getting your current assets to meet your objectives
Portfolio Construction
- Once we have determined an appropriate benchmark, Fourth Quadrant will use its Four Pillars of Investing: Liquidity, Valuations, Economic Activity, and Sentiment, to determine the proper allocation of assets. Evaluating what asset allocation you should have is crucial, as approximately 70% of long term portfolio returns are most impacted by this decision
- At the highest level, a large range of data inputs are analyzed and used for unique quantitative and qualitative research
- This analysis of market conditions, historical context, and behavioral factors lead to asset allocation decisions – i.e. what blend of stocks, bonds, options, volatility and cash to own at any particular time

- The investing process doesn’t stop there. Direct communication, service, customization and our ability to work closely with your tax professional play important roles. Ensuring you are comfortable with your portfolio beyond implementation is an important part of our comprehensive approach.
